We are fortunate that no one collapsed from heat stroke due to the poorly planned itinerary during one of the hottest days that Chicago has had.Ģ. In the extreme heat, we had to walk back to the hotel quickly after the cruise to get ready to go to dinner, then hurry over to the John Hancock building.
After 7+ hours of traveling from Sacramento, there was no time to feed the singers, and no time to get a receipt for our luggage at the hotel (it was all just bundled into a room at the hotel, and we had to hope that we got it all back when we returned to the hotel).
On Day 1, our plane landed around noon-from O’Hare we had to take 2 trains and walk several blocks to the hotel, drop off the luggage and walk very fast to the architecture cruise to get there by 2:30pm. Although the itinerary was approved by the choir director, we were trusting (and paying for) that the tour company would understand how much time it would take to get from point A to point B.ġ. While we did experience just about everything on the itinerary, there were several issues with the tour company’s planning. NCCC is a small but tremendously accomplished choir accustomed to performing before audiences of varying sizes (for example, these young women have performed in Carnegie Hall, in ACDA honor choirs, and Europe).
Their failure to respond to our questions is unprofessional and deceptive: was their failure to advertise due to a mistake on their part or a deliberate omission? When only 4 people showed up for the performance, the singers were devasted to have worked so hard to not be able to perform in front of an audience (of more than 4 people). When asked repeatedly by our choir director and in a subsequent letter I wrote to them, Kaleidoscope Adventures stated that they promoted the concert but refused to provide proof of what advertising they did. James Cathedral.Īs far as I can tell, the company did not advertise in all possible social media platforms, they did not post signage or flyers, and they did not coordinate with the cathedral on notifying their congregation (for example, there was no posting in cathedral’s on-line calendar). Even though I understand that there were some challenges to garnering an audience in Chicago in June, I still trusted that the tour company would do all it could to promote the choir’s performance at St. James Cathedral, and, consequently, there were only 4 people in the audience. However, the most egregious failure of KA for our tour is that they did not appear to advertise the concert at St. The Kaleidoscope Adventures tour was in Chicago was the worst tour that we have taken, and I will outline some of the issues below. During that time she has been on several very successful choir tours, and I have had the opportunity to accompany them as a chaperone on several of them.
